MP backs biodiesel tax break campaign

29 June 2011

MP Andrew George is backing a project to keep tax breaks for companies who produce biodiesel.

Producers transforming cooking oil into biodiesel currently benefit from a 20p differential however that is due to end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been satisfying with the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George stated "a number of little companies in Cornwall currently generate income from used cooking oil".

He included: "In order to be able to get this type of market going it does need simply a little bit of lift which comes in the type of tax inevitable."

Biodiesel is a mix of standard diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
